Post Doc

just got back from the 6 week check. i don't think i impressed him with my range of motion or my muscle strength.

but the fracture seems to be healing well. i have no more restrictions on use other than not being allowed to fall on it.

i go back in 5 more weeks. at that point i may be allowed to fall on it. however, we will probably schedule the surgery to take out the plate and screws for 2 weeks after that. as he says, the bone will then be weaker than it was with the plate and screws in. so, no falling for 6 more weeks after the surgery (but no other restrictions).

so, it looks like there will be a two or three week window in which i can race cross. those had better be some fun gawdam races.

oh, i learned one other thing. apparently i get to keep some of my ti hardware. i didn't know (because he didn't tell me...you really have to pry the information out of these guys...) but he put in an extra piece of thick wire to act as a pin to hold one of the fragments in place.

just what i needed, extra parts and more weight....

Hey, at least you're stuck with Ti - it's nice and light. Glad to hear you're healing up well.

I use the weight of the plate and 7 screws in my right wrist as an excuse all the time. Convenient.

My grandma had some hardware from breaking her knee; she framed it & keeps it in her foyer to show new visitors.

uh, yeah, i kinda see that now.

we had the original x-ray that showed only 3 or 4 screws and no wire. Apparently that was taken part way through the surgery.

I'll definitely save the plate and screws when they come out...maybe make a xmas decoration out of them.

the wire apparently stays in, though...

oh yeah, we thought of that as well...of course that means i'd have to get off my lazy butt and build frames to put them on...

What an x-ray!

I think you should bronze the hardware as a souvenir reminder.

But then again, I really like the Christmas ornament idea. Go bronze, add a wire and hang it on the tree every year.

You could also make it into a car dashboard ornament or solder it onto your bike handlebars.

I don't know, I think the whole idea of having automobile like parts inside my body gives me more heebee jeebees then the nasal roto-rooter thing.

I've had my bailing wire in since 1996 with no worries.

Nice how bike racers make notes of when they are able to fall on their bones. ;)

I think falling is something you should never do, weak or strong bone!

The roadrunner will give you a circuit workout to increase your strength. I think she is working towards being strong enough to take me out. :0
